Red Hot Cinnamon Popcorn
Have you ever walked by those gourmet popcorn stands that smell delicious, but somehow make you think you have gained weight just by smelling the popcorn? Do you have a favorite flavor? Mine is that red cinnamon popcorn, that I am sure is terrible for you! I recently set out to recreate that red hot cinnamon popcorn, but make it much healthier and easier on the bank account!
This recipe is coming just in time for your New Years Eve parties, but you can definitely enjoy it anytime of the year! Can anyone believe we are already to 2017? Seriously, how did that happen? I have lots of fun an excited stuff coming your way this next year, so stay tuned!
Popping at Home
Let’s get back to the red hot cinnamon popcorn! If you have never tried popping your own popcorn, not in a pre-made bag, it is really simple. Get a package of brown paper bags and a jug of popcorn kernels from the store. All you have to do is dump your desired amount of kernels in the bag and fold it down a few times, just so it doesn’t get caught in the microwave, and set on your popcorn setting. (If you don’t have a popcorn setting, then just listen for the popping to slow down and take it out. That’s it! Fresh popcorn without all the extra weird additives that they put in! If you are big into butter and salt on your popcorn you can always just add it yourself!
The rest of the popcorn is easy to throw together really fast when you are wanting a nice treat! It is sweet with a nice cinnamon taste! Quick note on the cinnamon bark oil, I use this one, but make sure that the cinnamon oil you are using is good quality and approved for dietary use! This popcorn doesn’t come super red, but you can always add a few dashes of red sprinkles for some fun color! This also doubles as a warning sign for others that this isn’t “regular” popcorn! My husband made that mistake and wasn’t happy about it! Ha ha!
The Super Food Sneak
The sneaky super food is cinnamon bark oil. Be careful with this oil as it is “hot”/spicy. A little but goes a long way! Cinnamon bark oil can help your digestive system and your immune system! Again, be very careful buying essential oils, make sure they are approved for dietary use! (I use these.) Delicious and healthy snacking is the best!
Red Hot Cinnamon Popcorn
- 1/4 cup popcorn kernels
- 1 tablespoon coconut oil melted
- 1/2 tablespoon blue agave or sweetener of choice- agave just has more sweetness and less of a "taste"
- 1 drop cinnamon bark oil only use essential oils that are approved for dietary use!
- 1 splash vanilla
- several dashes red sprinkles optional
Dump your popcorn kernels in a brown paper bag and pop in the microwave.
Melt the coconut oil in the microwave just until melted, should be really fast, in 10-15 seconds or so. If not all has melted just stir it around until it dissolves.
Add in the agave and cinnamon and stir well.
Open your brown bag and pour in 1/3 or your coconut oil mixture, then shake the bag really good.
Repeat pouring and shaking until your coconut oil mixture is all gone.
Add in a few dashes of red sprinkles if you would like, and shake again.
