Ever wish you were a mermaid? Care free, lounging in the sun, swimming in an enchanted lagoon? I would love to tell you a found a secret potion, but no luck! I do however have a mermaid smoothie, that if you close your eyes, can take you away to a tropical paradise!
We are getting ready to throw my youngest daughter’s first birthday party, going with a mermaid theme! So naturally everything is all about mermaids right now. Today’s mermaid edition was a mermaid smoothie. Nothing fancy, just a straight up smoothie. Which I barely got any of because it was a huge hit for the girls! So fancy or not so fancy as the case may be, it was a win!
The Super Food Sneak
This smoothie was really all about the color rather than the ingredients, but it is a lovely coconut smoothie flavor! However, it involves one extreme superfood…spirulina! The best part, you can’t even taste it! Spirulina, is in the super food spotlight for benefits like protein, iron, and tons of other awesome things that are hard to pronounce! Seriously, if you are bored, run a quick google search and you will find tons of info praising the superiority of spirulina!
**Warning- start with a small amount!!!** In small amounts, you won’t taste it, but add to much, and it starts tasting fishy…like fish. Okay, you have been warned…now off to the recipe!
- 1 1/2 whole frozen banana
- 1/4 cup coconut flakes
- 1/4 cup canned coconut milk
- 3/4 cup regular coconut milk
- 1/2 teaspoon spirulina You can add more if you like, but it will deepen the color and could alter the taste slightly...so taste it before you add extra
- 1-2 scoops vanilla protein powder optional
Put all ingredients together in a blender and blend until smooth.
Pour into a cold glass and enjoy!
