You know that time of day, when you really, really want to take a cat nap but you have way to much to do? Is sleeping on the job frowned upon? The maca mocha power smoothie was created out of a desparate afternoon slump. While this is a great pick me up anytime of day, its is also a great way to kickstart your morning!
The Super Food Sneak
The super food in this smoothie is maca. If you aren’t familiar with maca- it is a root that is rich in vitamins, minerals, and amino acids. It helps improve mood, energy, and general health. If you are really curious, do a quick search on maca and you will find all sorts of great info on what it does for you!
If you have never tried maca before, start with a small amount, and add more after you try it. Maca has a malt-y type taste, kind of a “darker” flavor. Not sure if that really makes sense.
This power packed smoothie also contains cacao, which is a super food in its own right, and coffee! Let’s just take a moment and thank our lucky stars that someone figured out coffee!! This smoothie is really the perfect combo of everything good…if only it granted immortality! :p
Maca Mocha Power Smoothie
- 2 cups ice
- 1 teaspoon maca powder
- 1 tablespoon cacao powder
- 1-2 scoops vanilla protein powder
- sweetener- maple syrup, agave, dates, etc... optional- to taste
- 1 cup cold coffee
- 1 cup choice of nut milk
Toss all ingredients into a blender and blend until smooth.
Pour into a glass. (If you are feeling fancy- add some coconut whipped cream on top...or vanilla ice cream!)
You can adjust the milk and coffee ratio- if you want a stronger coffee flavor use more coffee, less milk. For less coffee flavor-use more milk, less coffee. Either way- your liquids should be around the two cups total.
