Intro to Nicecream
Just in case you have never heard of the term before, this is your intro to nicecream! It refers to a non-dairy icecream, most often made with a base of frozen bananas. The flavors can range from chocolate to mango, to everywhere in between. Seriously, there are some crazy combos out there!
Why You Should Be Eating It
There are many reasons to be eating nicecream besides the obvious, its delicious! Since the base is banana, and whatever fruit, nuts or flavor you decide to add to it, it is much healthier than a store bought pint of ice cream! Store bought ice cream is loaded with tons of bad fats, sugars, and dairy. Also, have you looked at ice cream prices recently? They aren’t cheap!! So eating more nicecream will help save your hips and your wallet!
An intro to nicecream tip from an old ice cream addict, I wasn’t immediately on board with all nicecream no ice cream. Start by maybe doing nice cream once or twice a week instead of ice cream. Ease into it slowly, and over time you can make the trade more and more, until you are primarily just eating the healthy stuff and saving regular ice cream for special occasions.
Super Food Sneak
The best part about nicecream is, it is super easy to hide all sorts of super foods when it tastes like icecream! In the recipe below we add cacao, which is an unprocessed version of cocoa powder. So it is considered raw, and much healthier. Healthy chocolate, has me on board instantly! Seriously, cacao has super high antioxidants, calcium, and mood elevating properties. Again chocolate and healthy!
Ice Cream For Breakfast
Okay, just in case you are still skeptical…this nicecream is so healthy it can be eaten for breakfast. ICE CREAM FOR BREAKFAST!!!! If that doesn’t get your inner kid excited, I am not sure what will!
Chocolate Covered Strawberry Nicecream
- 2 whole frozen bananas
- 1 tablespoon cacao powder
- 1 whole frozen banana
- 3-4 frozen strawberries
- 1 dollop sweetener of choice optional
In a high speed blender or food processor blend 2 frozen bananas and the cacao powder together until it resembles soft serve ice cream. (It will look kind of rice like before becoming smooth, this is normal.)
Spoon out the chocolate nicecream into a bowl.
Blend together the other frozen banana and frozen strawberries until smooth.
Spoon out into the other half of the bowl.
It is easiest to blend frozen bananas if they are in smaller chunks. I usually freeze bananas in halves, then break them in half again when I go to blend. If your blender or processor is having a hard time getting it to start blending, add a splash of almond or coconut milk. Just a small splash, too much and your nicecream will be much more soft/liquid-y.
