The Super Food Sneak
Pink dragon fruit or pitaya is the super food responsible for the hot pink coloring. I have to buy my dragon fruit in pre-made packets, basically fresh frozen dragon fruit. The frozen dragon fruit is actually fairly tasteless. This seems kind of weird to me as the color is electric, so you would think the flavor would be equally as intense.
Dragon Fruit, besides having a wicked awesome name, is high in antioxidants and vitamin C and B. This fruit has a really low amount of cholesterol, making it easy to digest. Other fun tidbits…it is said to help with sunburn, acne, and hair treatments.
One quick note before the recipe, one of the ingredients I use is an essential oil. Please make sure if you do use an oil in this recipe (or any) that you get one that is approved for dietary use! This is important as many oils are not okay to eat. The ones I use and trust are these. Okay, on to the recipe! Hope this brightens your day!
Dragon Fruit Smoothie Bowl
- 1 whole frozen banana
- 1 handful frozen strawberries
- 1 pack frozen dragon fruit/pitaya Pitaya Plus is the brand that I can find at my health food store
- 1 teaspoon baobab powder optional
- 1 crop tangerine oil see notes for which one I use
- 1 splash coconut milk The less you use, the thicker the smoothie. For a smoothie bowl, I keep it thicker-more like a soft serve ice cream consistency.
Add all ingredients to a blender and blend until smooth.
Scoop out into a bowl and top with any toppings you like. Chia seeds, nuts, nut butter, coconut flakes, fresh fruit or berries, etc...
Be extremely careful when adding essential oils to food! Only use a brand that is approved for dietary use. I use these.
