Do you love donuts, but not the empty calories? Are you in need of a fast and fun snack? Apple donuts are the next best thing since…well, donuts!
These apple donuts are super easy to make with no baking involved. They are a perfect mommy and me activity to do with your kids if they like to bake like mine do! They can have lots of fun placing on their own toppings and making their own little masterpieces!
The Super Food Sneak
Well, the sorta sneaky super food is apples. You know, an apple a day keeps the doctor away? Or something like that! Well, obviously, using apples instead of deep fried donuts as the base turns this recipe into a much healthier option! Not only that, but you could eat a dozen of these apple donuts and feel great! But seriously, these donuts are a great way to have a fun, yummy snack, without all the empty calories and super processed sugar highs.
This really isn’t a recipe…more like creative apple eating. We used to do something similar with apples growing up. I don’t know why, but I am pretty sure apples taste different depending on the different ways you cut them. Just me? Okay then.
Back to the apple donuts, all you need are apples and whatever toppings you fancy. That is it! Super easy snack, breakfast, second breakfast…you get the picture!
- 1 whole apple sliced into rings (missing the core)
- 2 tablespoons nut butter
- 1 handful chocolate chips
- 1 handfull coconut flakes
- 1-2 tablespoons cacao syrup
Slice your apple or apples into rings with the core punched out.
Start with spreading your nut butter, then add the rest of your toppings.
For the Cacao Syrup- either use a pre-made chocolate syrup, or make your own. I like using cacao powder and pure maple syrup. Place your powder in a small bowl and add in the maple syrup slowly, until you reach drizzling consistency.
Eat right away, and enjoy!
The toppings are just some of my favorites, but go crazy!
